A seasonal roof and drainage checklist

Use ground-level observations and a simple maintenance record to organize questions about your roof, gutters and downspouts.

Use ground-level observations and a simple maintenance record to organize questions about your roof, gutters and downspouts.

Observe from the ground

Look for visible displaced materials, unusual debris accumulation, overflowing gutters and downspouts that discharge across walkways. Note changes following wind or heavy weather. Do not climb onto the roof to complete this checklist.

  • Date and location of each observation.
  • Safely taken photographs where useful.
  • Recurring overflow or staining patterns.
  • Changes since a previous repair or assessment.

Keep records useful

Store proposals, product information, warranty documents and maintenance notes together. Ask qualified providers about any condition that needs closer inspection.

This checklist cannot confirm structural capacity, hidden moisture or roof remaining life. Schedule appropriate assessment when observations suggest a problem.
